Chrome OS has a surprising number of apps and extensions available, but they don't act the way that Windows or OS X programs do. Here's a quick guide. Run Android Apps In Chrome Browser On Windows, Mac OS X, Here’s How By Aatif April 3rd, 2015 For some odd reason, there seems to be a lot of interest around running Android apps on a desktop operating system, like Windows or OS X.
Like any other browser Chrome will constantly write to your SSD and with each write killing your SSD a little every time. To increase the lifetime of your SSD in your Apple Macbook Air or iMac you need to disable the caching mechanism of Chrome. Other browsers have options to disable file cache. But the guys at Google thought they’d make it easier and include these options as startup parameters. Well this is okay for some operating systems. But not for OS X.
1. Download Cacheless Chrome
This small app named Cacheless-Chrome is based on a simple AppleScript. It disables caches via startup parameters by executing your main Chrome app with them. And voila. No more cache. And you get more SSD life.
After downloading Cacheless Chrome
It will execute Chrome with the parameters described below (point 3.) and it will not create any icon in the dock.
(Tip: use Spotlight to run it or add it to your startup programs). Chrome has pretty good memory management so you can just leave it running after you start it cacheless. I find that I restart Chrome once every 20-25 days on my Mac.
Thanks!
I found many articles on the internet describing how to do this but I haven’t found anyone uploading an app for this. So I thought I’d just post mine. And to make it easier I’ve put it into a native DMG. Included are the following parameters:
Have fun with your Cacheless Chrome!
